Each of these tips – getting adequate sleep, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and making medical clinic appointments with your physician – has been scientifically proven to support your overall physical and emotional wellbeing.
Get Adequate Sleep
The National Sleep Foundation recommends seven and nine hours of sleep per night for adults between 18 and 64. Older adults should aim for seven to eight hours while anyone under 18 requires more time sleeping. The Foundation also recommends assessing your individual sleep needs based on your daily activities and typical sleep patterns.
Eat a Balanced Diet
One of the best things you can do for your health is to eat a balanced diet. That means limiting processed foods and choosing to fill your plate with fruits, vegetables, and legumes. You can find Omega-3s, ideal for promoting brain health, in seafood, nuts and seeds, and plant oils. Consider trying the “nutritionally sound” Mediterranean Diet that has again been voted #1 in best diets overall by the U.S. News & World Report.
Make Exercising a Habit
Support your overall health and wellbeing by exercising regularly. There are many fitness videos available on-demand, along with many other tools and apps, available to assist you – especially if you have not exercised in a while – in meeting the American Heart Associations’ recommendations for physical activity. Exercising for a minimum of 75 to 150-minutes per week is optimal.
