New Year’s Resolutions for Your Health

The holidays are here and, with ten days to go until 2021, you may be making goals for the New Year. Here are three resolutions to consider, including scheduling a physical exam with an internal medicine physician, perfect for a healthy lifestyle.

Be More Active

Physical exercise keeps your body healthy. Benefits include improved sleep quality, stronger muscles, and reduced risk of some diseases. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends exercising for a minimum of 150 minutes. Seventy-five minutes per week if you prefer more vigorous activities such as running, cycling, or jumping rope. In addition to these recommendations, the AHA also encourages completing resistance or weight training at least twice a week.

Drink More Water

Staying hydrated promotes good health. If you are one of the many people who do not drink enough water, consider focusing on drinking more, especially if you live an active lifestyle or reside in a warmer environment. Both the App Store and Google Play offer several customizable water tracking apps. Once you create an account, the app will remind you to drink more fluids and track your total water intake for that day; you can even earn badges in some.

Schedule a Wellness Exam

Begin the year by scheduling your annual physical. These exams focus on all parts of the body, whether any symptoms exist there or not, and may involve some general laboratory tests to screen for potential problems. Additional screenings may be completed depending on gender and age. The goal of annual physical and wellness exams is the prevention of disease.
